What and why Oregon Madness?

Oregon Madness was created to bring back normal high school basketball in a larger-than-life format, combining the best teams from 1A – 6A schools in a single elimination event to celebrate our coaches, players and schools throughout the state.

How is this event possible?

We have been working hard to create an alternative environment to play basketball in the event high school basketball was cancelled by the school districts.

On May 12th, Oregon Health Authority authorized us, in partnership with Santiam Health, to operate Oregon Madness at The PAC.  Their reasoning is that our Return to Play Manual is thoughtful and prudent and our team has extensive experience in organizing and hosting collegiate events this past Spring.

As we learn that the High School season was cut short and the rules are different, it made even more sense for us to create an environment to have the normalcy of high school basketball.

The PAC is working in partnership with Santiam Hospital (a CLIA certified Lab) and authorized by OHA to run a COVID testing pilot.  We are the first in the country to have a high school "bubble" where all athletes are tested prior to competition.

Who is invited to play?

Oregon Madness will consist of teams across 1A-6A Schools.  The number of schools invited from each division is as follows based on last year’s final OSAA ranking and first two weeks of 2021 games:

This will be the first event that combines all school in a large tournament format.

Yes, we are authorized for up to 150 spectators.  Tickets will be split per team.

Will masks be required?

No.  Santiam Hospital will be screening all athletes 72-hours prior to competition using a saliva COVID test, so that athletes can play mask free.  This testing will be free to all our athletes, coaches, and referees due to a grant from OHA and HHS. They will train coaches or another designated adult from each team on how to observe collection and to return samples via prepaid shipping to the lab in time for testing. Individual results will be reported to parents or guardians if the player is under 18. Team clearances will be provided to The PAC and coaches, but individual information will remain anonymous.
